Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how TaleWave (talewaveprox.life) uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies. It should be read together with the Privacy Notice. TaleWave is operated by Kai from Singapore and uses a bottom cookie banner offering Accept, Reject, and Customise choices.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Local storage is a related browser feature that can hold preference data without expiry until cleared. Similar technologies include session identifiers and pixels used by embedded third-party services. Cookies may be "session" cookies (deleted when you close the browser) or "persistent" cookies (remaining until they expire or you delete them).
2. How TaleWave uses cookies
2.1 Strictly necessary / essential
TaleWave itself sets minimal first-party data. The cookie banner stores your consent decision in local storage under the key tw_cookie_pref. This record is essential to remember whether you accepted, rejected, or customised optional analytics so the banner does not reappear on every page load. It includes a timestamp and expires after six months.
2.2 Optional analytics
If you choose Accept all or enable Analytics in Customise, TaleWave may load optional analytics scripts in future updates. At present the site records your preference locally but does not load third-party analytics unless explicitly enabled. Rejecting analytics means only the essential preference record is stored.
2.3 Google Maps embeds — important disclosure
Every content page on TaleWave (except the form handler send.php) includes an embedded Google Map showing Woodlands, Singapore. When the iframe loads, Google may set cookies or use similar technologies to deliver map tiles, measure usage, prevent abuse, and personalise content according to your Google account settings if you are signed in to Google services in the same browser.
These are third-party cookies outside my direct control. Google acts as an independent data controller for data collected through Maps. I embed maps to provide geographic context for a personal blog based in Woodlands. I do not receive identifiable analytics from Google about individual visitors unless Google provides such tools and I configure them, which TaleWave currently does not.
To limit Google tracking you may: reject non-essential cookies via Google's own settings (myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy); use browser extensions or settings that block third-party cookies; interact with the map only when necessary; or load TaleWave with scripts disabled, noting the map may not render correctly.
2.4 Hosting and security logs
Web servers handling TaleWave may issue session cookies or store log identifiers for security. These are operated by the hosting provider under their policies. They are not used by me for marketing.
3. Cookie banner choices
When you first visit TaleWave, a bottom strip banner appears until you choose:
- Accept — stores consent for essential and analytics cookies locally for six months;
- Reject — stores a rejection of analytics; only essential preference storage remains;
- Customise — reveals a checkbox for Analytics; Save stores your specific choice.
You may change your mind by clearing site data in your browser or deleting local storage for talewaveprox.life, which will show the banner again on your next visit.
4. Cookie list summary
| Name / key | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| tw_cookie_pref (local storage) | First-party | Stores cookie consent choice | 6 months |
| Google Maps cookies (various) | Third-party | Map delivery, security, Google services | Per Google policy |
5. Managing cookies in your browser
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through settings. Blocking all cookies may prevent the consent banner from remembering your choice and may affect map embeds. Consult your browser help pages for instructions on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
6. Updates
I may update this Cookie Policy when site features change, when regulators issue new guidance, or when embed providers alter their practices. The date at the top indicates the latest revision.
