Neighbourhood notes from Woodlands

I keep this front page as a working ledger — six entries that reflect what I am noticing now: morning coffee, connector walks, train platforms, evening lamps, market stairs, and a distant Chin Swee line remembered from Kampong Bahru.

Nothing here is syndicated. These pieces are written slowly, edited once, and left to stand as they are.

TaleWave is not a news desk. It is a personal shelf where I place essays about ordinary routes — the kind you walk without photographing until one day the light changes and you realise you have been passing the same railing for years. I live in Woodlands. Most entries begin within a twenty-minute radius of Block 558 and end wherever the walk takes me.

The CURRENT TABLE layout is deliberate. Six cards, six threads, no infinite scroll. When a piece ages out of attention it moves to the archive, but the front keeps what feels present. You will find first-person observation, British spelling, and no funnels asking you to buy anything. If a essay mentions the MRT, it is because I took the train, not because a brand paid me to mention it.

I write these notes in the gaps between freelance editing work and the small domestic rituals that structure my week. The kopitiam essay began on a Tuesday when the kopi sock hung longer than usual over a chipped cup. The park-connector piece followed a rain break that left the path smelling of cut grass and warm earth. Each card below opens into a longer piece — five hundred words or more — because brevity is not the same as thinness.

Readers sometimes ask whether the Chin Swee piece belongs on the front. It stays because memory is also a current. The view from Kampong Bahru is not a commute log; it is a way of measuring how far I have drifted north and what remains visible from the old sightline. That is the tone I want across TaleWave: honest, local, unhurried.

Start anywhere. The cards are numbered for my own filing, not for urgency. If you prefer chronological order, the archive groups entries by year. If you want context about who is writing, the author page explains my background without résumé theatre. And if you wish to reply, the reach form delivers a note to my inbox — I read everything, though replies may take a few days.
